A halo chasing through 16 million colors around each headlight gets people walking over to ask what kit that is. So does a devil eye glowing inside a housing you already own. XKGLOW sells both, and if you are shopping Jeep Wrangler headlights, they are two very different purchases.

They are not interchangeable. The halo kit replaces the entire headlight and runs on the XKmax app. The devil-eye bulbs replace only the bulb and run on the XKchrome app.

Jeep Wrangler Headlights: Halo Kit or Devil-Eye Bulbs

A halo is a ring of light built into the headlight assembly. A demon eye, which XKGLOW also calls a devil eye, is a color chip glowing inside the headlight. The table shows where the two products split.

The XKmax Halo Kit: A New Headlight With a Chasing Ring

XKGLOW's XKmax LED headlight kit for Jeep swaps your stock headlight for a 7-inch LED assembly with a 3D RGBW halo optic. The halo runs 16 million RGB colors plus a dedicated pure white LED, so it chases through color and still shows a true white.

The beam is a separate job. XKGLOW lists the high and low beams as DOT-compliant, and the halo is an RGBW layer added around them, not a replacement for the beam. Each headlight draws 33 watts on low beam and 39 on high, and XKGLOW says XKmax headlights are 90% brighter than previous models.

Control runs through the XKmax app over Bluetooth, the same app that runs XKmax rock lights. The setup gives you:

  • 28 or more pre-built chasing themes, plus a DIY builder
  • Music and Speed Sync
  • Up to 10 zones from one controller
  • Three sensor wires for your turn signals, brake lights, and courtesy lights
  • A programmable startup mode

A 4-button RF key fob is available as an add-on at $16.79, a 4-channel controller upgrade is $24, and the system supports firmware updates. The controller handles 5A per channel on 11 to 14 volts, and the page calls out updated waterproof connectors.

Which Wrangler Gets Which Kit

XKGLOW sells the halo kit in two versions. One fits the Wrangler TJ (1997 to 2006) and JK (2007 to 2018). The other fits the Wrangler JL (2018 on) and Gladiator JT (2020 on). On a JK the kit is a direct swap, and the JL and JT versions include an adapter ring.

Plan on 2 to 3 hours. The wiring is plug-and-play, the kit carries an IP67 waterproof rating, and the product page includes an install video for the JK, JL, and JT. The page also links app instructions, mounting instructions, and support videos, plus a dealer locator if you would rather hand the job off.

Check the product page for the kit's warranty terms. Registration is what activates XKGLOW's coverage, so register the kit when you install it.

The 2-in-1 Devil-Eye Bulb: Color in the Headlight You Have

Where the halo kit replaces the headlight, XKGLOW's 2-in-1 devil-eye kit replaces only the bulb. The kit includes two bulbs, and each pairs a 25-watt white LED chip, listed at 2,400 lumens, with a separate 3-watt RGB chip. The white chip is your headlight at 6000K, and XKGLOW lists up to a 100% increase in effective lux over halogen. XKGLOW says the LED mimics a halogen filament for accurately focused output, with a single copper PCB handling heat.

The RGB chip is the devil eye. It runs 16 million colors and syncs to music, speed, or acceleration. Auto-OFF shuts the RGB off when the headlight is activated. So the eye is what people see with the headlights off, and the bulb is a plain white headlight once they are on.

The XKchrome App

The bulbs run on the XKchrome app, not XKmax. The app captures a color from your phone camera and includes more than 15 holiday themes plus a DIY theme builder. XKchrome is XKGLOW's earlier app-controlled line, and in XKGLOW's own comparison, chasing effects, a key fob, and 10-zone control belong to XKmax. Expect solid colors and themed patterns, not a chase.

Before You Order

Three checks before you buy the bulbs:

  • Match the bulb size, because the size menu lists 12 options and no vehicles.
  • Check the clearance behind the housing, because XKGLOW notes the bulbs may not fit with the dust cover in place.
  • Know the fallback if your Jeep flickers or flags a bulb-out error on LEDs: XKGLOW sells an error canceller capacitor at $35.99 for a pair, and says it cannot guarantee a fix on every vehicle.

The 9004, 9007, H13, and H4 sizes list at $241.99, and the other eight at $214.49. The spec list shows 6063 aluminum and an IP67 rating, install runs under an hour, and the page carries a 5-year warranty. The bulb page makes no DOT claim, so the DOT-compliant language above belongs to the halo kit alone.

Which One Fits Your Build

Buy the halo kit if you want the color on the headlight itself and beams XKGLOW lists as DOT-compliant. The kit's page offers rock pods, vent lights, hood and door strips, and a wheel light kit as add-ons. The easy match is the fender vent lights, because they run the same XKmax app and themes.

Buy the bulbs if you want a color eye without replacing the headlight, and an install under an hour. At any size they cost less than a third of the halo kit, but they sit outside XKmax, so a Jeep running both needs both apps.

Already running XKchrome? XKGLOW sells the same bulbs as a no-controller version for an existing XKchrome system, from $131.99. It also sells a standalone RGB devil-eye kit with its own controller at $154.00. That page lists a 4-plus-hour install.

Pick One, Then Build Around It

Pick by what you are willing to replace. A headlight costs more and takes an afternoon, and in return the halo joins the same app as your other XKmax gear. A bulb takes an hour and a smaller bill, with a separate app and an eye that goes dark when the headlights come on. Start with the bulbs and add XKmax gear later, and you will run two apps side by side.

Whichever Jeep Wrangler headlights you pick, they are one piece of the build, and the guide to Jeep LED lights shows where the rest fits. Build yours today.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you change the color of Jeep headlights?

You can change the color of the halo or the devil eye, but not the beam. XKGLOW's halo kit runs 16 million colors through the XKmax app, and the devil-eye bulbs do the same through XKchrome. The color layers are the halo and the eye, while the beam keeps doing the lighting.

It depends on your state, and the beam and the color are separate questions. XKGLOW lists the halo kit's high and low beams as DOT-compliant, and the RGBW halo is an added layer around them. Check your local vehicle code before running color on public roads.

How are halo and demon-eye headlights different?

A halo rings the headlight, and a demon eye glows inside it. XKGLOW's halo kit replaces the whole headlight and chases color on XKmax. The devil-eye bulbs replace only the bulb, hold a color or pattern on XKchrome, and go dark when the headlights come on.

Which Jeep Wranglers do XKGLOW halo headlights fit?

XKGLOW sells the XKmax halo kit in two versions, one for the Wrangler TJ and JK and one for the Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT. On a JK the kit is a direct swap. The JL and JT versions include an adapter ring, and install takes 2 to 3 hours.

Do the halo and devil-eye headlights use the same app?

No. The XKmax halo kit runs on the XKmax app, with an optional 4-button RF key fob. The 2-in-1 devil-eye bulbs run on the XKchrome app. Each XKGLOW line has its own app, so a Jeep running both products needs both apps on your phone.
