Your Jeep can carry a full exterior build and still sit dark from the driver's seat. Rock lights, fender vents, and a tailgate bar all point outward. Jeep interior lights cover the part you see every time you climb in. Fiber-optic ambient lighting does that with one continuous line of color along the dash and doors.
XKGLOW's XKmax RGB fiber-optic interior ambient light kit is built for that job. It ships in four sets named for where the strips go, runs from the XKmax app over Bluetooth, and takes 1 to 6 hours to install by XKGLOW's own estimate.
What Jeep Interior Lights Actually Do
Jeep interior LED lights do three different jobs. A dome light swap brightens one spot, and footwell lights wash the floor. Ambient lighting traces the shape of the cabin, and that is the job here.
It is accent light. It sets the mood and outlines the dash, but it will not replace a map light.
Fiber-Optic Ambient Versus a Bare LED Strip
A bare LED strip is built to hide. Look straight at one and you see a row of bright points, so it normally sits behind trim and throws indirect light. XKGLOW's own interior-kit write-up draws the same line: fiber-optic strips are the glow you are meant to see, and plain LED strips stay out of sight.
A fiber-optic strip reads as one continuous line of light. The XKmax strip is slim, flexible, and trimmable, and it presses into the gaps along a dash or door panel. Its LEDs are addressable RGB, so color can chase along the line. A non-addressable strip can only change all at once.
This kit is RGB, not RGBW. XKGLOW's rock lights and underglow add a dedicated white LED, and this kit does not.
The XKmax Fiber-Optic Kit, Size by Size
XKGLOW names each set for where the strips go, in 30 or 43 inch lengths, with a two-channel or four-channel controller.
| Kit | Strips | Controller | MSRP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dash (MX-FO-MINI) | 2 x 30in | 2-channel | $191.99 |
| 2 Doors (MX-FO-STA) | 2 x 43in | 2-channel | $215.99 |
| 4 Doors (MX-FO-ADV) | 4 x 43in | 4-channel | $347.99 |
| Dash + 4 Doors (MX-FO-PRO) | 2 x 30in + 4 x 43in | 4-channel | $455.99 |
Each set ships with the controller, a switch harness, plastic pry tools, double-sided tape, heat shrink, and T-tap connectors. The controller takes 11 to 14 volts and is rated for 5 amps per channel. The 4-button key fob is a separate add-on, and extra 30 and 43 inch fiber-optic strips are sold on the same page.
Which Kit Fits a Wrangler or Gladiator
Count doors first. Wranglers come in two-door and four-door body styles, and the Gladiator is a four-door. A two-door Wrangler lines up with the 2 Doors set, and a four-door Wrangler or a Gladiator with 4 Doors. Dash + 4 Doors is the full-cabin build.
XKGLOW lists the kit for car and truck interiors and sizes it by dash and door count, so measure the runs on your own panels. A strip can be cut shorter but not longer.
Removable doors change the plan. Wrangler and Gladiator doors come off, and a strip on a door comes off with it. Decide where each connector will sit before you stick anything down, and remember the dash strips stay lit with the doors in the garage.
Check the Gaps Before You Order
XKGLOW's mounting instructions carry a warning at step one. Installing the strips could require removing trim panels on the dash and doors, and in extreme cases cutting trim panels, dash surfaces, or other interior parts to get the effect. The manual says to inspect your panels and gaps before you start, and it says a kit can be returned only if it has never been installed and is in original condition.
The manual also recommends a licensed professional for the install, and the product page links a dealer locator for install help.
How the Install Goes
Plan on 1 to 6 hours, XKGLOW's listed range. The manual calls for sharp scissors, a tape measure, and a heat gun. Here is the core sequence:
- Bench test. Plug the strips into the controller and switch harness, connect to a 12V battery, and run the lights before anything gets stuck down.
- Measure. Lay each strip flat and note its length in inches. Cut with sharp scissors only if a strip has to be shorter.
- Mount. Press each strip into the panel gaps with the plastic pry tools, adding double-sided tape where needed. Cover the small white plugs with heat shrink.
- Secure the wiring away from heat and moving parts, put the ON/OFF switch somewhere dry, and reinstall the trim without pinching a strip or wire. The gaps can run tight afterward.
- Connect to a positive 12V source and a vehicle ground, then power on. Download the XKmax app and scan the QR code in the manual to load the kit preset.
If you cut a strip, you can tell the app its new length. Multiply the length in inches by 3.4, round up, and enter that as the addressable unit count. It is optional, but it keeps gradients and patterns correct on the cut strip.
Control From the XKmax App
The kit runs on XKGLOW's 5th-gen Bluetooth system through the XKmax app. You get 28 or more pre-built chasing themes and a DIY builder for colors, patterns, speed, and brightness. The color tool can scan a color with your phone's camera, so a custom theme can match something already in your cabin.
Music, vehicle speed, and acceleration can each drive the lights. Sensor wires let the controller react to the Jeep. Nothing is preset, so you assign each trigger in the app, and XKGLOW names turn signals and courtesy lights as examples. A startup mode sets the look each channel shows at power-on, and multi-zone control splits one controller into separate areas of the cabin.
One controller pairs with up to four of the optional key fobs. If the Jeep will sit for a long stretch, XKGLOW recommends the physical switch, which cuts power completely.
Warranty and Registration
Check the product page for the kit's warranty terms. XKGLOW's kit manual says registering the kit activates coverage.
XKGLOW's warranty page limits coverage to properly installed products and requires proof of purchase. Keep your receipt, and photograph the finished wiring in case XKGLOW asks for proof of proper installation.
Tie the Cabin Into the Rest of the Build
The XKmax app also runs XKGLOW's XKmax rock lights and fender vents, so a build that starts in the cabin can grow outward without a second app. The guide to choosing LED lights for your Jeep shows where each piece fits. Build yours today.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to add ambient lighting to a Jeep?
XKGLOW's XKmax fiber-optic kit lists from $191.99 for the Dash set to $455.99 for Dash + 4 Doors, before the optional key fob. A DIY install costs time, listed at 1 to 6 hours. A shop sets its own labor rate, so get a quote before booking.
Can I control Jeep interior lights from my phone?
Yes. The XKmax kit pairs over Bluetooth with the XKmax app, where you pick from 28 or more chasing themes, build your own, or sync color to music, speed, or acceleration. A 4-button key fob is an optional add-on for quick changes without the phone.
How do you install fiber-optic interior lights in a Jeep?
Test the kit on a 12V battery, then measure each strip and press it into the panel gaps with the included pry tools, adding double-sided tape where needed. Seal the plugs with heat shrink, secure the wiring, reinstall the trim, and connect to 12V. XKGLOW lists 1 to 6 hours.
What is the difference between fiber-optic and regular LED interior lights?
A fiber-optic strip is made to be seen, so its glow reads as one continuous line. A regular LED strip is made to hide behind trim because, looked at directly, it shows individual points. XKGLOW's XKmax version adds addressable RGB, so color chases along the line.
Which XKGLOW fiber-optic kit fits a two-door or four-door Jeep?
Match the kit to your doors. A two-door Wrangler lines up with the 2 Doors set, a four-door Wrangler or Gladiator with 4 Doors, and Dash + 4 Doors covers the whole cabin. XKGLOW lists the kit for cars and trucks in general, so measure your runs first.
