Bolt a light bar onto a Wrangler and the whole face of the Jeep changes. Before you pick one, know this: on a JL or JK, the mount decides the size. Each XKGLOW Jeep bracket takes a set range of bar lengths, so the spot you choose narrows the order to a few bar lengths.
This guide matches the XKmax Dual-Mode LED Light Bar to the brackets XKGLOW sells for the Wrangler JL and JK. Shopping for a Jeep JL light bar gives you three brackets that line up with XKmax sizes. A JK owner gets one. The same bracket pages cover the Gladiator JT, which XKGLOW lists alongside the JL.
JL or JK: What Changes for a Light Bar
The JK is the 2007 to 2018 Wrangler. XKGLOW's hood bracket instruction sheet gives a quick tell: a JK has no vent on the front fender. The JL is the newer Wrangler, and every one of XKGLOW's Wrangler bar brackets lists it.
For a light bar, the difference comes down to which Jeep Wrangler light bar mount XKGLOW makes for your generation. XKGLOW's JL brackets cover the hood, the front bumper and the A-pillars, each in a length range that includes an XKmax size. For the JK, it covers the hood. XKGLOW's Jeep mounting-bracket category holds four bar brackets for the front of a Wrangler, and only the hood bracket lists the JK.
Own an older TJ instead? None of these brackets list it, so a TJ build needs its own mounting plan.
The XKmax Dual-Mode Bar in Brief
Two modes share one housing. Light Bar mode is the beam you run on the trail. DRL mode hands the bar over to the chasing strip, with themes you pick in the XKmax app. The modes are a toggle, not a blend: switch in the app over Bluetooth, with a sensor wire, or on a manual switch.
The bar is IP67 rated and comes in 7, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 inch lengths. XKGLOW lists it as universal for trucks, Jeeps and UTVs. On a Wrangler, the Jeep-specific part is the bracket. Its instruction sheet mounts the bar by an angle bracket on each end.
Road use of the beam is its own question, and our guide to light bar road rules covers it.
Where to Mount a Jeep JL Light Bar
A Jeep Wrangler JL light bar has three XKGLOW mounting spots to choose from, plus one bracket to skip. Each Jeep JL light bar mount below takes its own range of bar lengths.
Hood Hinges: The 20 Inch Bar
The hood bracket fits 20 to 22 inch bars, which in the XKmax lineup means the 20 inch bar. It bolts on at the hood hinges. Installation replaces the factory hinge fasteners, centers the mounts between the hinges, and finishes by setting the bar's height.
Order the JL & JT model for a JL. XKGLOW designed the hood brackets for standard Sport hoods, and it notes that any additional cowl height needs spacing at the hinge mounting point for proper clearance.
Front Bumper: 20, 30 or 40 Inch
For a Jeep bumper light bar, the front bumper bracket has the widest range. Its adjustable slide plate handles anything from 18 to 42 inches, so the 20, 30 and 40 inch XKmax bars all fall inside it.
It works in two setups. One holds 18 to 30 inch bars. Reversed, the brackets take 32 to 42 inch bars. The 20 and 30 inch bars use the first setup, and the 40 inch bar uses the reversed one.
The bracket can also stack two bars, one above the other, as long as each is 2 inches tall or less. The XKmax listing gives no bar height. Measure yours if you plan a stack.
The bracket anchors at the frame rails behind the bumper, and the grille comes off for access during the install. XKGLOW names no bumper styles for it. If your JL runs an aftermarket bumper, ask XKGLOW to confirm fit.
A-Pillars: The 50 Inch Bar
The A-pillar bracket carries the longest XKmax bar at windshield level. It comes in 50 and 52 inch versions, and the 50 inch one (XK-BRC-JL-AP50) matches the 50 inch XKmax bar. XKGLOW gives it a low-height design for wind noise reduction.
A 50 inch bar mounts on spacers fitted to the bracket. Before you finish, check windshield wiper clearance and use the slotted adjustments to find the best position for visibility and wind noise.
Check your trim first. XKGLOW rules out the EcoDiesel JL, the 4xE JL and the Rubicon 392 because of their increased cowl height. On the Gladiator side, it excludes the Mojave, EcoDiesel and 4xE JT.
The Cowl Bracket: Skip It With an XKmax Bar
XKGLOW also sells a cowl bracket for the JL and JT, in 18 to 20 inch and 30 to 32 inch versions. The cowl bracket's listing warns that XKmax-series bars won't clear the hood on these mounts and require spacers that XKGLOW does not provide. The mounts are designed for XKchrome-series bars. With an XKmax bar, choose the hood, bumper or A-pillar bracket instead.
Mounting a Jeep Wrangler JK Light Bar
A JK has one XKGLOW option: the hood bracket's JK model (XK-BRC-JK-H) with a 20 inch XKmax bar. The JK model is the one with adapter plates. The plate widens the JK's hinge mounting surface to JL/JT specifications, and the install then follows the same steps.
If you want an all-XKGLOW setup, a JK light bar lives on the hood. The bumper, A-pillar and cowl brackets list only the JL and JT. For a Jeep JK light bar mount on the bumper or at windshield level, you would need a third-party mount. Check that its rated bar length and attachment points suit the XKmax bar's end brackets before you buy.
Which Size: XKmax Lengths Matched to XKGLOW Brackets
List prices are at the time of writing. Lumens are XKGLOW's maximum rating for each size.
| XKmax bar | List price | Max lumens | JL bracket in range | JK bracket in range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 in (MX-BAR-7) | $191.99 | 4,931 | None | None |
| 10 in (MX-BAR-10) | $215.99 | 7,386 | None | None |
| 20 in (MX-BAR-20) | $335.99 | 14,720 | Hood or front bumper | Hood (JK model) |
| 30 in (MX-BAR-30) | $455.99 | 20,984 | Front bumper | None |
| 40 in (MX-BAR-40) | $575.99 | 24,529 | Front bumper (reversed setup) | None |
| 50 in (MX-BAR-50) | $719.99 | 33,102 | A-pillar (50 in version) | None |
Bracket list prices run $95.99 for the JL & JT hood model and $107.99 for the JK hood model. The front bumper bracket is $119.99, and the 50 inch A-pillar is $264.98.
Read the table as length ranges, not fit promises. XKGLOW lists each bar by its nominal length and publishes no overall dimension or mounting-point spacing. Measure the span on your Jeep and compare it with the bar. The 7 and 10 inch bars sit below every range: no XKGLOW Jeep bracket is sized for them.
Length also scales output. XKGLOW rates the 50 inch bar at 33,102 lumens and the 20 inch at 14,720.
Planning two spots on a JL, say a 50 inch at the A-pillars and a 30 inch on the bumper? Extra bars from the Make It Even Brighter add-on list on the bar's page have no controller of their own. Each one hooks up to the XKmax controller that sits on the back of your first bar. No cable lengths are listed. Map the run between the two spots first.
Install Time and Who Should Do It
The bar's listed install time is 1 to 2 hours. The hood and front bumper brackets each list under an hour, and the A-pillar bracket 1 to 4 hours. The brackets' instruction sheets call for installation by a licensed professional. They also treat damage from improper installation as grounds to void the warranty.
Prefer to hand the job to a pro? The Get Install Help link on the bar's page leads to XKGLOW's dealer locator. The bar's page shows a 5-year warranty badge. The bracket pages list a 1-year coating warranty plus a limited lifetime structural warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size light bar for Jeep JL?
It depends on the spot: 20, 30, 40 or 50 inches on XKGLOW's JL brackets. The hood bracket fits 20 to 22 inch bars, the bumper 18 to 42, and the A-pillars 50 or 52. In XKmax sizes, that is 20 on the hood, 20 to 40 on the bumper, or 50 up top.
What size light bar for Jeep Wrangler JK?
A 20 inch bar is the size XKGLOW's brackets support on a JK. The JK model of the hood bracket fits 20 to 22 inch bars and uses adapter plates at the hood hinges. XKGLOW's bumper, A-pillar and cowl brackets list the JL and JT only. Other JK spots take a third-party mount.
Where to mount a light bar?
On a Wrangler JL, mount it on the hood hinges, the front bumper, or the A-pillars at windshield level. Those are the three spots where XKGLOW's brackets match XKmax lengths. On a JK, the hood is the one spot. Each bracket takes a set range of bar lengths.
What is the best light bar for a Jeep Wrangler?
For a Wrangler that should glow at the meet and light the trail after, get the XKmax Dual-Mode bar. It pairs a driving beam with a color-chasing DRL strip in one IP67 housing, runs from the XKmax app, and comes in the lengths XKGLOW's JL brackets take.
